I have a multi-dimensional art practice which embraces making, performance and installation. Through my recent doctoral study at Royal College of Art, Little Horror. At home with filial violence, I have turned to writing, diagrammatic drawing and film making, to articulate repetitious time and event in domestic dysfunction. I use the layering of evidential materials and moments in time, to hide and accentuate events. I intend my work to sit liminally, between the dualities of allure and abjection, like sparkle on shit, and to thrust the audience, unexpectedly, into an uncanny zone, where they are enticed and repelled simultaneously.
Artist Biography
Sophie Cero lives and works in the East Midlands. In 2025 after being awarded her PhD in Fine Art by practice, from Royal College of Art, she returned to the studio after many years focussing on socially engaged practice. Prior to this, she created participatory projects for many clients including Tate Liverpool, Kettle’s Yard, and the National Trust.
